    During the annual manifestation Ateliers Ouverts 2010, Peter BOND will be opening his Strasbourg studio to the public for two week ends. The artist will show new works of the latest Series The Sublime Landscape.

    USELESS REVOLUTIONS - 2009
    DISCO BALL WITHOUT MIRRORS, ELECTRIC
    MOTOR, SPOT LAMP
    40 CM DIAMETER

    A disco ball, where all the mirrors
    have been patiently taken off by the artist. The ball turns as normal, but it has become a useless object
    floating in space. Once the focal point of any party, its day has passed and its purpose has been altered.  Its visual impact now is perfectly inverted from an object that reflected all light to one where no light can escape its absorption.

  • Davide Bertocchi

    Davide Bertocchi was born in Modena, Italy in 1969. 
    From 1988 through 1993, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna under Alberto Garutti. Garutti’s teaching had a major influence on the development of his future work. He concurrently also attended the University of Bologna's DAMS (Discipline Arte Musica e Spettacolo).  From 1993 through 1994, he studied at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten, in Utrecht, Holland and started to experiment with sound and music. In 1996, after a short period in New York and Los Angeles, he moved to Milan and lived in Via Fiuggi.  He shared this basement converted into working and living space with many artist contemporaries: Diego Perrone, Giuseppe Gabellone, Debora Ligorio, Sara Ciraci, Simone Berti, Stefania Galegati, Ettore Favini and Lara Favaretto. Later, many considered this the starting point of a new dynamic artistic scene in Milan. During this period he worked as a gallery assistant to Massimo De Carlo, where he collaborated with many artists that would make an important impact on his later work. From 1998 through 2000, he lived in the Milan flat of Maurizio Cattelan, who also advised him to apply to an artist in residence program at the Ecole de Beaux Arts de Nantes, France, and that was directed by Robert Fleck, Stephanie Moisdon and Philippe Lepeut.
    From that point to the present, he has lived and worked mainly in Paris. In 2000, he was chosen as one of the 10 Italian artists for the Studio Program at PS1-MoMa in New York. In 2002, he was an artist in residence at the National Contemporary Art Centre Villa Arson, Nice, France.  From 2003 through 2004, he participated in the artist in residence program, “Le Pavillon”, at Palais De Tokyo, Paris.

    Davide Bertocchi uses imagery culled from music and science and intentionally manipulates it by imposing unusual and intimate perspectives. His body of work ranges from video to sculpture to sound installations and mainly deals with pseudo-scientific phenomena, such as the dissipation of energy and the movement of information through its “support mechanisms” such as CDs, DVDs, records, and/or magnetic tapes, the orbital movements of planets and galaxies - this useless rotating revolutionary movement and its existential and enigmatic impact on everyday life. One of his most well known works, Spazio, an endless work in progress started in 1999, depicts an infinite number of images of planets or galaxies completely invented by him, but that can indeed exhist as our knowledge of the universe is still very limited.

    His work has been included in several publication and exhibitions.

    Introduction :
    La connaissance sensible n’est pas exclusivement réservée à l’art. Comme une dimension toujours à redécouvrir, elle est devenu un facteur incontournable pour des recherches à buts divers. Dans de nombreux laboratoires, aujourd’hui, on mesure, on expérimente notre “psyché”, nos sens de l’ouïe, de l’écoute, du regard, du goût et du toucher, comme la sensibilité de la peau, par exemple.

    L’industrie cosmétique investit dans des champs étendus de la sensibilité. Elle est devenue une industrie de l’intimité qui s’adresse directement à nos sens. Elle crée de nouvelles formes de sensibilité, sédimentant à sa manière les angoisses et les désirs des sociétés post-industrielles. Les espaces symboliques et imaginaires qu’elle nous propose permettent la mise en scène de nos désirs dans le quotidien. L’industrie de la beauté s’inspire ouvertement de ces désirs, mais aussi des résultats des recherches spatiales, bio-médicales, écologiques, etc. Ceci se reflète clairement dans la médiatisation des produits qui sont souvent légitimés par un langage technoscientifique adéquate.
    A un niveau politique, l’industrie de la beauté démocratise à sa manière le principe d’individualisation des corps que l’on trouve déjà dès l’antiquité (le souci de soi repéré par Foucault).
    Elle joue donc sur un registre très subtile qui influence nos rêves, notre compréhension du corps et enfin la perception de l’espace personnel.
    Les deux mondes de la “beauté industrielle” et de l’art, distincts l’un de l’autre selon des modes de production très différents (esthétique fonctionnelle ou représentation symbolique), sont pourtant liés par une terminologie commune, par des réflexions sur l’espace corporel, sa représentation, son devenir et sa transformation. Ils travaillent sur des perceptions inframinces, des sensations subtiles.

    Le Laboratoire de la Sensibilité propose quelques réflexions sur cet environnement sans énoncer de conclusion ou de résultats précis. Les éléments rassemblés ici tentent plutôt un rapprochement par le biais du sensible, du théorique, et de l’expérimental.
    Le Laboratoire de la Sensibilité regroupe un éventail de personnes qui, par rapport à leurs propres recherches, se sont sentis concernés par la problématique, ou qui sont impliqués quotidiennement ou épisodiquement dans le cadre d’une pratique professionnelle.

    Sensible knowledge is not the exclusive reserve of art. As a dimension always awaiting renewed discovery, it has become an unavoidable factor within diverse areas of research. Today, various laboratories measure and experiment with our “psyche“, our sense of hearing, listening, and touch, souch as, for example, the sensibility of our skin.

    The cosmetic industry invests in increasingly wider areas of sensibility. It has developed into an industry of intimacy directly addressd to our senses, creating, in its own particular way, new forms of sensibility, that infix the anxieties and desires of post-industrial society. The symbolic and imaginary spaces that it offers allow the staging of our desires within daily life. The beauty industry openly draws its inspiration from our desires, but it also draws inspiration from the results of spatial, biomedical, and ecological research, etc. This is reflected in the mediatization of products frequently legitimized through an authoritative techno-scientific language.
    On a political level, the beauty industry democratizes the axiom of the individualization of bodies that can already be found as early as Antiquity (Michel Foucault’s identification of “the care of the self“).
    It thus operates on a particularly subtle level, influencing our dreams, the apprehension of our bodies, and finally the perception of personal space.
    Distinct from one another, in the form of divergent modes of production (functional aesthetics or symbolic representation), the two worlds of the “beauty industry” and art, are nevertheless related through a common terminology and the consideration of bodily space, its representation, becoming and transformation. Both operate through minute perceptions and subtle sensations.

    The Laboratory of Sensibility proposes a number of considerations within this particular field without however proclaiming a conclusion or yielding circumscribed results. Rather, the elements assembled here attempt an approach by way of the sensible, the theoretical, and the experimental.
    It brings together a range of contributors who feel concerned by the subject in their own areas of investigation or those who are involved, on a daily or intermittent basis, as part of a professional practice.
