    Peter Ross BOND

    Il y a 16 ans

    Peter Ross BOND
Born in Australia, Peter BOND moved to Europe soon after Art School. He lived in Berlin in the early 70s and later moved to London where he completed his Bachelor of Arts. In Paris Peter BOND worked for 10 years at the famous Atelier 17 of S.W. Hayter where he learned and excelled in etching. An opportunity to teach etching at Penrith University in Sydney brought the artist and his family to Australia for a year (1987), before settling back in a large studio in Paris.

It is at that time that Peter BOND turned to painting large landscapes, or rather "-scapes", as he wonders from land to sea over hills to mountains.

Often starting out with a familiar object or figure on the bare canvas, Peter BOND then covers it with layers of paint, which he often scrapes back letting reappear what was painted at the start. No waste: the scraped-off matter finds its way back somewhere onto the canvas, giving the work a very tangible materiality. These pieces stand out like rocks on the edge of a cliff, something to hang onto at the verge of the abyss.

For Peter BOND's works are pictures of the mind. No Escape !

This is a series of 8 large oil paintings of which 5 are shown here. Some of them are horizontal triptychs. Inspired by the roughness of the Normandy coast, these works are extremely powerful, in a material as well as a mental sense.

The use of perishable matter in Peter Ross BOND’s paintings confirms his belief that nothing lasts forever. His choice to recycle tape and other material originating from activities in the atelier corresponds to childhood experience watching his parents making party hats from crêpe-paper, tinsel and glitter.

This is a series of 8 smaller works, 4 measuring 20 x 30 cm, the others 10 x 30 cm. They are presented here as diptychs, but can be acquired individually, or mixed and matched as desired, depending on availability. The large frame (3cm deep) designed and realized by the artist, allows each piece or diptych to stand freely as an object.

Peter BOND created a set of small format works during 2006 with the particularity of having a black painted wooden frame stuck to the back of the work. The idea is to project the painting off the wall.
In the series  “Night-Fall” realized in 1998 the artist uses black pigment directly sprinkled onto the painted canvas to create the night feeling.
