Le Palais de la femme was acquired by the Salvation Army and inaugurated in 1929 as a hostel. 640 rooms for women, who came to Paris from the province. Today it is still run in the same spirit. During the preparation of the exhibition, we realized the importance of integrating the constraints inherent in the etics and daily life of the hoste, in our project. A gallery and a museum, by way of their function, permits the artist to approach any subject, by providing a protective framework around any subversive work of art. In the Palais de la femme we found ourselves on foreign ground, in a reality with rules that we must respect. The exhibition can therefore be seen as a invitation to open a dialogue between serval, very different, parties. Extrait du catalogue : Femmes publiques, sortie à l'occasion de l'exposition, 1994.
